Details:
Born in Dublin on March 10th, 1836, and was educated at the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland. He was Prizeman in Physiological Chemistry at Apothecaries' Hall, Dublin, in 1853-1854, and Clinical Clerk at the Meath Hospital in 1856. He entered the Army in India as Assistant Surgeon (Staff) on Jan 22nd, 1858, and was gazetted in that capacity to the 5th Fusiliers, with which regiment he went through part of the Indian Mutiny. He joined the 13th Fusiliers on November 21st, 1865, and then the Royal Engineers on March 9th, 1867, with whom he served till 1873. He was promoted Surgeon Major on April 1st, 1873, and resigned on November 28th, 1877. He then from time to time, apparently, served as Surgeon on board the White Star and Cunard Steamship Companies' vessels, and gained an extensive knowledge of nautical hygiene. Settling in Liverpool after leaving India, first in Edge Lane, and latterly at 47 Claremont Road, Seaforth, Leet practised for many years and acted as Medical Referee to the Colonial Mutual Assurance Company. He was also an Associate of the Liverpool Medical Institute and a member of the British Medical Association. He died at Liverpool on August 25th, 1907.
