Details:
Born on August 24th, 1788, graduated at Edinburgh, the title of his thesis being *De Evolutione et Decremento Corporis Humani* (8vo, Edinburgh, 1808), and was appointed Assistant Surgeon to the Bengal Army on February 3rd, 1809. He was promoted Surgeon on July 11th, 1823, and in the Army List of 1843 was styled Senior Surgeon, a title changed to Surgeon Major in 1895. He saw active service in the Third Maratha, Pindari, or Deccan War in 1817-1818; was for many years Superintendent of Post Offices, and on January 1st, 1841, was appointed Postmaster-General of the North-West Provinces. He retired on September 18th, 1845, having been included in the twenty-nine members of the IMS who were elected FRCS on August 26th, 1844. He died at After Lodge, Glenlogan, near Mauchline, Ayrshire, on May 3rd, 1848. Publication: *Report on the Malignant Fever called the Pali Plague*, etc., under the direction of the Bengal Medical Board, 8vo, map, Calcutta, 1835.
