Having qualified as LSA, he had charge for three years of a practice in Berkshire. He returned to London and qualified as a MRCS, and then settled in practice at Brighton. He was first House Surgeon to the Dispensary, then Surgeon to the Parish Infirmary for thirty years, at the end of which time he was presented with a handsome piece of plate, subscribed for by the Mayor, Magistrates, Clergy, and others. He served on the Town Council after the incorporation, practising at Lansdowne Place, where he continued to live in retirement until shortly before his death, when he removed to Chichester, where he died on December 26th, 1882, and was buried in Brighton Cemetery. He married twice, and left a widow, five daughters and two sons.
