Born at Gillingham, Kent on 12 November 1883, he was educated at St Thomas's Hospital where he won numerous prizes and the Musgrove Scholarship. After qualifying in 1908 he held house appointments at St Thomas's, and filled posts at the Royal Free Hospital, the West London Hospital and the Royal Salop Infirmary, Shrewsbury. During the war of 1914-18 he served in the RAMC in East Africa. He then went into practice with Arnold Leeming MRCS at Sudbury, Suffolk, becoming surgeon to St Leonard's Hospital and practising at 51 Friars Street for many years. He lectured for the Red Cross and acted as coroner and was an active member of the West Suffolk division of the British Medical Association, becoming its chairman in 1925-26 and again in 1947-48; he was also President of the Suffolk branch in 1926-27 and 1945-46. His recreation was sailing on the Norfolk Broads. He retired in 1951 to Tankerton, Kent, where he died on 3 January 1956 aged 72. Rix was of reserved nature and lived for his work in which he was thorough, efficient and knowledgeable.
