Details:
Educated in Wales and at Caius College, Cambridge, being in residence from 1942 until 1945, he obtained a first class in both parts of the Natural Sciences Tripos in 1944 and 1945. For his clinical study he went to St George's Hospital, where he was awarded the Brackenbury Prize in Surgery in 1947 and the Allingham Scholarship in Surgery in 1951. At St George's he acted as house surgeon, senior demonstrator of morbid anatomy and histology, and surgical first assistant. He carried out national service in the Army, publishing a paper on immunisation against tuberculosis in the Army, with L R S MacFarlane and R L Townsend, in *Proc Roy Soc Med* 1956, 49, 319. He died suddenly in September 1963, shortly after being appointed a surgical consultant at St George's Hospital, survived by his wife and children.
