Biographical entry Sawrey, Ernest Edward Robert (1869 - 1962)

Educated in Melbourne, he was appointed resident medical officer at the Melbourne Hospital in 1892 and then of the Women's Hospital in Melbourne in 1893-94, after which he became surgical superintendent of Geelong Hospital, Victoria in 1895, and in 1896 surgical superintendent of the Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital, Melbourne.

At this stage he came to England, and, after being admitted a Fellow in 1901, he worked as a senior clinical assistant at the Ear and Throat Hospital, Golden Square in 1902 and 1903, following this with an appointment as resident surgical officer at the Royal London Ophthalmic (Moorfields) Hospital in 1904 and 1905 and surgical superintendent in 1906.

He then returned to Australia and was appointed assistant surgeon to the Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital, Melbourne in 1907, being advanced to full surgeon in 1913. In 1929 he retired becoming honorary consulting surgeon, from which position he retired in 1946. He joined the reserve of the Australian Army Medical Corps in 1909, from which he retired in 1919. He died in 1962.
