Details:
Bennett, born about 1900, was educated at St Bartholomew's Hospital, qualified in 1923 and held resident posts at the Royal Hampshire Hospital, Winchester. He was then appointed to the staff of the Victoria Infirmary, Northwich, Cheshire and had a busy career as a consultant surgeon in that area. He was consultant surgeon to the Park Prewett Mental Hospital and to industrial companies at Northwich including Imperial Chemical Industries (Alkali), for traumatic cases, and the Associated Ethyl Company. After the reorganisation of hospitals under the National Health Service from 1948, he became surgical consultant for the North and Mid Cheshire Hospitals Group. He was elected a Fellow of the College, as a Member of twenty years' standing, in 1959. He had lived at Brookside, Ravensclough, Cuddington, Northwich but retired in the mid-1960s to Peny Clawdd Cottage, Llangollen, Denbighshire, North Wales, where he died after severe illness on 28 February 1969 in his sixty-ninth year, survived by his wife with their daughter and four sons. The funeral service was held in Llangollen Parish Church, in whose welfare he was deeply interested. Publications: Crohn's disease, two cases. *Lancet*, 1946, 1: 846.
