Details:
Born at Windsor, Nova Scotia he graduated in Arts at Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, and qualified in medicine and surgery at McGill University, Montreal in 1909, and undertook postgraduate study there. Coming to England for further training he took the Fellowship in 1914, and was commissioned in the RAMC on the outbreak of war that autumn. He served in France 1914-18 at No 34 Casualty Clearing Station, reaching the rank of Major. Returning to Nova Scotia in 1919 he was appointed surgeon to the Victoria General Hospital and to the Children's Hospital, and Professor of Surgery at Dalhousie University. He was ultimately consulting surgeon to both his hospitals, and was elected Emeritus Professor on retirement from his chair. He was recognised throughout Canada as a leading surgeon and teacher, and was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada at Ottawa and a 'Senior Member' of the Canadian Medical Association; he was also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He had occupied the Presidency of both the Halifax and the Nova Scotia Medical Societies. He practised at 892 Greenwood Avenue, Halifax and later at South Park Street. Curry was an active sportsman, enjoying tennis, golf, curling and yachting, and when he retired from practice took much interest in his work as a member of the Point Pleasant Park Commission. He died in Halifax on 9 September 1966 aged seventy-eight, and was survived by his wife Gladys (Churchill Sircom) and their two married daughters.
