Arthur Robb studied medicine at Edinburgh University qualifying in 1945. He returned to the Royal Infirmary and Western General Hospital after his army service to complete his training in urology and general surgery. He was first appointed consultant surgeon to the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow but then moved to the more senior post of surgeon to the Royal Northern Infirmary in Inverness. He was a tireless worker devoting much of his time to establishing the postgraduate medical centre in Inverness and organising surgical training linked to the Aberdeen hospitals. He was punctilious in his attendance at educational meetings in Edinburgh and Glasgow which involved round trips of over 300 miles. He was an examiner at the Edinburgh College, served on the President's Council and became Vice-President and representative on the General Medical Council. His industry, honesty and wisdom were rewarded with his OBE. Sadly ill health progressively disabled him shortly after his retirement and he died on 10 March 1990 survived by his wife Anne (née Orr), also a doctor, a daughter and a son.
