Girija Nath Sen returned to his home town of Jaipur when he became a Fellow of the College in 1936. He joined the government service as the first surgeon in the Mayo Hospital. In 1949 he became the Director of Medical and Health Services. He was also the first Principal, Sawai Man Singh Medical College, Jaipur.

He retired from government service in 1951 but continued to run a private practice in his own nursing home until 1962. He was described as a general surgeon in the true sense covering ENT, orthopaedics and gynaecological work. Many surgeons now eminent in various fields were trained by him.

He died on 7 January 1987 survived by his wife Leela and two sons. His son Goutam is medically qualified.
