Ken Lennox was born in Tongue, Sutherland, on 19 August 1910, the youngest son of Peter Lennox, a customs and excise officer, and Jessie, née Macdonald, the daughter of a draper. He was educated at Tongue School and Inverness and Hamilton Academies, and at Glasgow University Medical School, where he qualified in 1933. After junior posts in Glasgow he was appointed resident surgical officer at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester, and subsequently honorary surgeon to Fleetwood Hospital, Lancashire, in 1938. After the war he served in the RAMC in Italy, India and Japan, attaining the rank of lieutenant-colonel, and he was the senior army medical officer in Hiroshima after the first atomic bomb explosion in 1945. He was President of the Surgical Section of the Manchester Medical Society and Branch President of the British Medical Association. Outside his many hospital activities he was a three-handicap golfer, and captained the Royal Lytham St Anne's Golf Club in 1957. He retired in 1975 and died on 11 January 1991, aged 80, in Blackpool. He was survived by his wife Brenda, née Lamb, whom he had married in 1971, and by a son, Peter, and a daughter, Jane.
