Details:
Jeffrey Woodrow Betts was a consultant at Lincoln County Hospital. He was born in Elstree, Hertfordshire, on 20 March 1913, to John Betts, a newspaper proprietor and editor, and Hannah Woodrow, daughter of a farmer and mill-owner. He was educated at St Alban's School and King's College, London. He then joined the family publishing firm. He later enrolled at Charing Cross Hospital, where he qualified in 1943. He completed his house jobs with L R Broster and Norman Lake, before joining the RNVR. He served at sea and at Bombay Hospital as Surgeon Lieutenant. On demobilisation he worked for Ian Aird at Hammersmith, as registrar, and was then registrar to W Rose and A J Wilson, at Derbyshire Royal Infirmary, and senior registrar to Clifford Jones and Sir Ernest Finch at Sheffield Royal Infirmary, before becoming consultant at Lincoln County Hospital. He was area director of postgraduate education in Lincolnshire for Sheffield University. He was a keen hunter with the Burton Hunt, and an enthusiastic golfer and skier. He married in 1944 and had two daughters. He died on 20 June 2000.
