Michael Crowson was consultant surgeon to Good Hope Hospital, Sutton Coldfield. He was born in Lincoln on 17 December 1953. His father Dennis Crowson was a Squadron Leader in the Royal Air Force. His mother was Helen née Ahearn. His education took place at many different schools, as his father was posted from place to place, and it was from the Henry-Box Sixth Form College that he entered Birmingham Medical School, graduating in 1977. After junior posts in Birmingham, he did his higher surgical training, during which time he wrote papers on the acute gastrointestinal complications of infrarenal aortic aneurysm repair and blood transfusion in colorectal cancer. He was appointed consultant surgeon to Good Hope Hospital, Sutton Coldfield, in 1990. He was director of surgery from 1994 to 1995. He was a keen gardener and a member of the Alpine Garden Society and an enthusiastic water-skier. In 1980 he married Mary Jane née Casswell, a nurse. They had two sons, Matthew Charles and Richard Thomas, who were both still at school when he died, and a daughter, Nicola Louise, who was at Reading University. He died on 17 December 1998.
