Details:
Richard Daniel Condon was a consultant general surgeon. Born in Sydney on 14 August 1917, he was the first child of Richard Condon, a teacher of electrical engineering, and his wife, Nelle née Nugent. He attended Marcellin College Randwick, a Roman Catholic secondary school for boys in New South Wales, and then won a scholarship to study medicine at Sydney University. At St Vincent’s Hospital he was taught by Victor J Kinsella. From 1941 to 1943 he served as a captain in the AAMC before travelling to London to study for his fellowship. He worked with Lawrence Akie and Stanley Aylett at King’s College Hospital. Returning to Australia he was appointed surgeon at St Vincent’s, St Margaret’s and the Royal South Sydney Hospital. He married Natalie Weber in 1943 and they had four daughters. They owned a ranch in Titaatee Creek, near Gloucester, New South Wales on which he reared livestock. He died on 20 June 1999, aged 81.
