James Joseph O’Brien was a general surgeon in Australia. Born in Northern Ireland on 21 September 1921 he studied medicine at Queen’s University, Belfast and graduated MB ChB in 1945. He did house jobs in London and passed the fellowship of the college in 1961. He moved to Australia, was appointed a consultant surgeon and lived in Kensington, a suburb of Sydney, New South Wales.
He died in March 2016 aged 96.
