Sorab Pestonji Minwalla was a surgeon in North Carolina, USA. He was born in Karachi in what was then India on 29 March 1926, the third child and second son of Pestonji Minwalla, an accountant, and Goolbai K Minwalla. He was educated at the Bai Virbaji Soparivala Parsi High School in Karachi, the D J Sindh College, also in Karachi, and Grant Medical College in Bombay. He qualified in 1951. He held junior posts at the Sir J J and Tata Memorial hospitals, Bombay. He then went to the UK, where he worked at Leicester General Hospital, Chase Farm Hospital in Enfield and St Helier Hospital, Carshalton. He gained his FRCS in 1961. He listed four surgeons who had influenced him: Angus MacLeod Macarthur, Michael Meredith Brown, Thomas Max Pemberton and James Davis MD. On his return to Karachi, he held a post at the Holy Family Hospital. He subsequently emigrated to the United States, where he worked at Watts Hospital, Durham, North Carolina. In 1963, he married Christine Mavis Gear. They had two daughters. They divorced in 1985. Sorab Minwalla died on 17 April 1986. He was 60.
