Two of his mother’s brothers were also medically qualified. Educated in Bombay at the Bhada New High School, St Xavier’s College and Grant Medical College, he then enrolled at Grant Medical College to study medicine. He trained at the Sir J J Hospital and qualified MB BS in 1927. On travelling to the UK, he did house jobs at the Middlesex, Guy’s and St Bartholomew’s Hospitals where he was mentored by Russell Howard, James Walton, Victor Bonney, Grant Massie, Hamilton Bailey and Reginald Vick. He passed the fellowship of the college in 1933. When he returned to Karachi he worked as a surgeon at the Civil Hospital and the Parsi General Hospital. In 1946 he married Ms Nargis and they had a son who read medicine at Dow Medical College. Outside medicine he enjoyed swimming, fishing, chess and bridge.
