Details:
Colonel Derrick Orry Hunt Messent was a surgeon in the RAMC. He was born on 19 June 1922. He studied medicine at Sydney University, qualified in 1946 and gained his FRCS in 1964.
He wrote a joint paper on spontaneous rupture of the oesophagus (‘Spontaneous rupture of the oesophagus with unusual features’ *Postgrad Med J* 1967 Sep;43[503]:614-8) and another on trauma life support training (‘Animal cadaveric models for advanced trauma life support training’ *Ann R Coll Surg Engl*1990 Mar;72[2]:135-9). He retired in 2002 and lived in Teignmouth in Devon.
In 1958, he married Sarah E Byrne. Derrick Orry Hunt Messent died on 1 January 2017. He was 94.
