Details:
Charles Webster was a surgeon based at Port Macquarie, New South Wales, Australia. Born in Aberdeen on 1 January 1928, he was the son of Alexander Urquhart Webster, a general practitioner in Fraserborough, and his wife Grace née Findlay. After primary education in the local school in Fraserborough, he attended Robert Gordon’s College in Aberdeen. He studied medicine at Aberdeen University, graduating MB, ChB in 1950. From 1951 to 1953 he served as a major with the RAMC in Korea and Japan. He did house jobs at the Aberdeen Royal Hospital (where he was mentored by George Gordon Bruce and Sydney Gordon Davidson) and at the Western Infirmary Edinburgh, where he came under the aegis of Sir John Bruce. He passed the fellowship of the college in 1959 and moved to Oxford University as a lecturer and surgical tutor. While there he worked with Philip Rowland Allison, Arthur Elliot Smith and Anthony Stedman Till. It is not known when he commenced his career in Australia. In 1953 he married Miss Nicholson and they had two sons. He died on 2 May 2018 aged 90.
