Details
Educated at University College, London. He was Assistant Surgeon to the Dowlais Iron Works, Glamorganshire, and then practised for many years at Pewsey, Wilts, where he was Medical Officer to the Union District and Workhouse. After his retirement he resided at The Alders, 70 St Helen’s Road, Hastings, and died there on Nov 19th, 1897. His son, Alfred Carter, Physician to the General Hospital, Birmingham, and Professor of Medicine in the University, published *The Elements of Practical Medicine*, 1881, which reached the eleventh edition in 1920. It was dedicated to his father.
