Details
Was a student at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, who practised for forty years in Birmingham, especially as an obstetrician. He was for twenty years Obstetric Surgeon to the Queen’s Hospital, also Professor of Midwifery and Diseases of Women at Queen’s College. He was the founder of the Children’s and Womens Hospital, becoming Surgeon and then Consulting Surgeon to the Birmingham and Midland Free Hospital for Children. He was also Surgeon to the Hospital for Women and to the Magdalen Home, Edgbaston. On his retirement in 1881 he was the recipient of a handsome testimonial. He was also President of the Midland Medical Society and of the Birmingham Branch of the British Medical Association. Berry retired to Clapham Park, London, where he died on September 29th, 1887, and was buried at Birmingham, leaving a widow and a daughter who married Thomas Bartleet (qv).
