Details
Howard Jayne was a senior consultant general surgeon at St Stephen's and St Mary Abbott's hospitals, London, and a senior surgical tutor at the Westminster Hospital Medical School. He studied medicine at King's College, London, and then Westminster, where he was a keen cricketer. He was an excellent clinician and general surgeon who did everything carefully and well. He described a case of primary carcinoma of the liver 24 years after intravenous thorotrast (Journal of Clinical Pathology 1958). Outside medicine, he played golf at Royal Wimbledon and learnt the cello. Predeceased by his wife Peggy, he died at the age of 90 on 19 July 2006. He was survived by his children Sara and Christopher.
