Born in September, 1816, in Oxford, where his father, William Crozier, resided, and received his early education there. He then began to study medicine at St Bartholomew's Hospital, where he greatly distinguished himself. After qualifying he was appointed by the Council of the Royal College of Surgeons, after a competitive examination, to the Studentship in Human and Comparative Anatomy, just established by the College in 1889. The salary of this post was £100 per annum, tenable for three years, at the expiration of which an appointment of Assistant Surgeon in the Honourable East India Company, or in the Army or Navy, was put at the disposal of the College for holders of such a Studentship. Crozier soon won the approbation of Professor Owen by the neatness of his dissections and mountings. He prepared a very large number of specimens now in the Museum, and contributed largely to the work of the printed catalogues. At the end of three years he elected to accept the offer of the East India Company, and, having passed their examination, sailed for Bengal. He passed unharmed through the Mutiny. In 1855 he returned to India after having visited England on sick leave, and was appointed Professor of Anatomy and Physiology at the Medical College, Calcutta. He, however, failed rapidly in health and was obliged to live in the Hills, but the change not benefiting him, he again sailed for England and died on the voyage, in the Red Sea, aboard the P & O SS *Simla* on November 12th, 1862. He was referred to, at the time of his death, as of "HM's Bengal Army." His promotions, etc, are given by Lieut-Colonel Crawford, IMS, as follows: Assistant Surgeon in Bengal Army in 1842 (September 18th), nominated by Sir J Lushington, a Director of the HEIC, on the recommendation of the Council of the Royal College of Surgeons; Surgeon, April 10th, 1857; Surgeon Major, September 18th, 1862. He saw active service in the First Sikh or Sutlej War of 1845-1846, being present at the Battles of Mudki, Aliwal, and Firuzshahr (Medal with two Clasps).
