Details
Educated at Guy's Hospital. He for many years carried on a good country practice inherited from his father at Kingsbridge, Devon, but retired shortly before his death owing to increasing deafness, and was succeeded by his son. He was a sound and judicious practitioner, and a local patriot, being at all times ready to throw his house open to his neighbours from far and near when any public matter was under discussion. For many years he was Vicar's Warden at the church. His love for horticulture was pronounced, and he often judged at flower shows. He was especially successful as a fruit-grower, always endeavouring to grow the newest and best kinds. His advice was much sought in local matters. He died at his residence, Tresillian House, Kingsbridge, on January 29th, 1873, the cause of death being subacute pneumonia. His last illness lasted only sixteen hours. He left a widow and a family of eleven.
