Details
Educated at Guy's Hospital, where he entered in 1829, and at the Infirmary, Northampton, in which town he was apprenticed to Dr Robertson. He settled in practice at Newmarket, and was for many years the trusted friend and adviser of the best-known men in the racing world: Admiral Rous, George Payne, and the Duke of Rutland. The last-named was always his staunch friend. Sciatica unfitted Faircloth for hard work some twenty years before his death, and he went to live at 3 Inverness Gardens, Kensington, where he died on March 11th, 1899. He was a quiet, courteous gentleman of the old school, and enjoyed his ample means amid a large circle of friends, most of whom he survived. His portrait is in the Council Album; in face he resembled the late Sir John Simon, KCB.
