Kanagaratnam Sivathondan was a consultant general surgeon in Truro, Cornwall. He was the son of Dr and Mrs Kanagratnam of Jaffna, Sri Lanka. He gained the fellowships of both the English and Edinburgh Royal Colleges of Surgeons in 1976.
He died at home after a short illness and was survived by his wife, Yasothai (née Thurasingham).
