Born on December 21st, 1865, the only son of Henry Foster, a chemical manufacturer, and Mary his wife. After being educated privately he entered St Mary's Hospital, where he served as Obstetrical Officer, House Surgeon, and Clinical Ophthalmic Assistant. He began to practise in Reading in 1893, and in 1899 was appointed Assistant Surgeon to the Royal Berkshire Hospital, becoming full Surgeon in 1914, and, retiring in 1924, was appointed Consulting Surgeon. Foster was a pioneer in X-ray work in Reading, and was mainly responsible for the formation of a Radiological Department at the Hospital. During the War he had charge of the Reading War Hospital with a commission as Captain RAMC (T). He died suddenly at Boscombe, Hampshire, on May 11th, 1928, survived by his second wife, Dorothea Gwenfron (née Davies), whom he had married on August 15th, 1924, and a married daughter. A younger daughter qualified, and died unmarried whilst in resident charge of a hospital at Quetta. He was buried at Tyler's Green, Bucks.
