Was a well-known surgeon in Leeds, having been prominently connected with the Leeds School of Medicine, where he lectured on surgery, anatomy, and physiology. He helped to establish the Leeds Public Dispensary, with which he was connected as one of its Surgeons from its opening in 1824 till 1852. He also assisted in founding the West Riding Medical Charitable Society, and was its Secretary for twenty-five years, never having failed to attend its annual meetings. He was much interested in religious affairs, and was a warm supporter of the Pastoral Aid Society, Church Missionary Society, and Bible Society. He was for some time President of the Leeds Branch of the Pastoral Aid Society and was Secretary of the Leeds Auxiliary Bible Society. He was also a Trustee of St Stephen's and St George's Churches in Leeds. "His whole career, private and public," says his biographer in the *Leeds Intelligencer*, "was one of uprightness and candour, liberality and charity." He died at his residence, 42, Park Square, Leeds, on Sunday, June 4th, 1865.
