Details
Born on September 1st, 1820; educated at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, where he took a poll degree. At St George's Hospital he was 'perpetual pupil' to Caesar Hawkins from 1840 and House Surgeon in 1847 and entered the Bengal Army as Assistant Surgeon on June 10th, 1854. He was Civil Surgeon at Shahabad, was one of the defenders of Arrah in the Mutiny, for which he received the Medal with Clasp; but, according to Lieut-Colonel Crawford, he was included amongst those who there contracted disease which proved fatal before long. He died on his way home on board the *Ceylon*, November 6th, 1860. Publication: *Two Months in Arrah in 1857*, 12mo, London, 1860. It is a short account of the siege.
