Details
Born at Axminster, where his father had a large practice. Both his father and mother belonged to old Devonshire families. He went first to Blundell's School, then to St Bartholomew's, where he was a fellow-student of Sir James Paget and Luther Holden. He began to practise in Chelsea, moved to Margaret Street, Cavendish Square, and was Surgeon to Queen Adelaide's Lying-in Hospital. In 1848 he moved to Ottery St Mary, where he made a large general practice. His health broke down and he had to take a long rest. He restarted practice at Stokenchurch, Oxfordshire, in 1868, and was Medical Officer and Vaccinator of the 10th and 11th Districts of the Wycombe Union, where after some opposition he secured a public water-supply. The Lodge of Oddfellows is styled in his memory Court Hayman. He retired in 1884 to The Hall, Hornchurch, and then to St Andrew's, Brentwood, where he died on March 21st, 1898.
