Details
Born on January 18th, 1857, the second son of Dr W H Horrocks, Blundellsands, Liverpool. He was educated at University College, Liverpool, Owens College, Manchester, and University College Hospital, London. After graduation he was Junior Resident Officer at the Rotunda Hospital, Dublin. For nearly three years he was Resident Surgeon at the Northern Hospital, Liverpool. Next, and for one year, he was Demonstrator of Anatomy at University College, London; then for two and a half years House Surgeon at the Bradford Royal Infirmary. He entered into partnership with Dr A C F Rabagliati for a few years and then continued in general practice alone. He was elected Assistant Surgeon to the Bradford Infirmary in 1891, was appointed Surgeon in 1892, and through this gained a practice in surgery, both as a consultant and operator, in Bradford and the surrounding districts. He was a most active member of the Bradford Medico-Chirurgical Society, reading many papers, exhibiting cases, and acting as President 1899-1900. He represented Bradford on the British Medical Association, and on the Yorkshire Branch Council. At the same time he had read widely and was an ardent collector of old prints, his collection of colour prints, beautiful and rare, being one of the finest in the country. He continued at work, although not of strong physique, until some six weeks before his death at Oak Royd, Manningham Lane, Bradford, on December 5th, 1910. He was survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. Publications: *Life of Sir Astley Cooper*. *Medical Notes on the Life of Edward Gibbon*. *Some Political Opinions of C J Fox and Political Caricatures*. He edited with J LANE NOTTER the second edition of Notter and Firth's *Theory and Practice of Hygiene*, 8vo, 15 plates, London, 1900.
