Details
Educated at University College, the Middlesex Hospital, in Paris at the Ecole de Médecine and La Charité, in Dublin at the Rotunda. He first practised in Exeter, where he was Physician to the Dispensary, President of the Medical Board, and Coroner. In 1846 he gained the Jacksonian Prize of the Royal College of Surgeons with an essay on asphyxia, its various causes, forms, and treatment. He went out to Dunedin, New Zealand, where he was Surgeon to the Dunedin Hospital and Gaol, Visiting Medical Officer to Lunatic Asylums, and Member of Council of the University of Otago. He died at Dunedin on November 28th, 1876.
