Details
Born on Sept 21st, 1795, the son of Christopher Kane, of Marylebone, Middlesex. He joined the Army as a Hospital Assistant to the Forces on December 6th, 1813, and was on half pay from March, 1816, to February, 1824. He joined the Bombay Medical Establishment of the Honourable East India Company on May 1st, 1819. He was promoted Surgeon on September 8th, 1826, Superintending Surgeon on March 1st, 1841, and became a member of the Medical Board and Inspector-General of Hospitals on September 27th, 1847, rising to the rank of Surgeon General on December 1st. He retired on April 15th, 1848. He died on August 2nd, 1851, though his death was not reported to the College till 1854. He is noted by Lieut-Colonel Crawford as one of the twenty-nine officers of the IMS who were elected Fellows on August 26th, 1844.
