Details
Came of a family which included many generations of medical men. He served his apprenticeship to his father in his native town, Totnes, Devon, and finished his professional training at Guy's Hospital. He was Resident Medical Officer at the Stamford Hill and Stoke Newington Dispensary, then Surgeon and finally Consulting Surgeon. Throughout an active practice extending over nearly fifty years his wide knowledge of his profession, his handsome commanding presence, and his extreme kindliness of manner made him trusted and respected by several generations of patients. Jealous to a degree of the integrity of his profession and its traditions, he possessed an absolutely unbiased mind, always appreciative of real advances in modern medicine and surgery. He retired some twelve years before he died, but continued to afford advice and help to former patients. He was one of the oldest practitioners in North London at the time of his death, which occurred at his residence, Stamford Hill, N, on April 3rd, 1903. He was buried at Totnes in the same grave as his wife (d1901). He was at one time in partnership with Isaac Morris, MD, and William Percy Reynolds (Kellock, Morris, & Reynolds).
