Details
A descendant of an old Surrey family, who was educated at Guy's Hospital. He began to practise near Russell Square, where he soon met with success. In 1848 he joined partnership with John Sutton and Charles Hewitt Sams, of Greenwich and Blackheath. He became deservedly popular, and for many years held one of the leading practices in Kent. His professional work, added to domestic trials, told on his health, which was already failing, in 1869. He then chose as junior partner Dr Ralph Gooding, of Blackheath, and found his health growing rapidly feebler. He died of pneumonia, at Eccleshall, Staffordshire, whither he had retired some months before, on October 24th, 1871, leaving a widow and one son. He was buried in the family grave at Nunhead.
