Details
Born at Carmarthen on June 21st, 1830, the son of Henry Lawrence, MD, JP, an old Army Surgeon and Physician to Carmarthenshire Hospital. He received his professional training at St Mary's Hospital, and was Resident Medical Officer there before joining the Army. He was gazetted Assistant Surgeon to the Grenadier Guards on February 24th, 1854, and Surgeon on October 30th, 1866. On December 12th, 1868, he became Battalion Surgeon to the Grenadier Guards, and under Royal Warrant of date November 18th, 1880, was styled Surgeon Major. He retired with the honorary rank of Brigade Surgeon on June 21st, 1885. He had seen active service in the Crimea. He died on November 23rd, 1916.
