Details
Born at St Thomé, Madras, on February 11th, 1810, the son of Superintending Surgeon John Macleod, Madras Army; entered the service of the HEIC, and was gazetted Assistant Surgeon in the Madras Army on March 8th, 1841. He was promoted Surgeon on October 26th, 1859, and Surgeon Major on March 8th, 1861. He retired on February 26th, 1874. He saw much active service during the Mutiny of 1857-1858. For many years he was the Senior Officer on the Madras retired list, the Senior on the Bengal list being the centenarian, H B Hinton. Macleod died on July 20th, 1914. Publications: Macleod was the author of an obsolete treatise:- *Acholic Diseases: comprising Jaundice, Diarrhoea, Dysentery and Cholera, with a Preliminary Dissertation on Bile, the Bilious Function and the Action of Cholagogues*, 8vo, London, 1866.
