Details
Born at Chapel-en-le-Frith, Derbyshire, on October 18th, 1840, and was early apprenticed to William Loney, of Macclesfield. His master being Surgeon to the Lying-in Charity, it fell to the apprentice's lot to attend labours there. Before qualifying he did in fact attend, and keep careful notes of, over a thousand normal midwifery cases. After this remarkable experience Taylor pursued his professional training at Anderson's College, Glasgow, and then at Mason's College, Birmingham. He first practised at Wargrave in Oxfordshire, and in 1867 went to Chester as one of the Visiting Surgeons at the General Infirmary. In 1870 he started in practice in the city and was soon elected Surgeon to the Infirmary, a position which he held till 1907, when he was made Consulting Surgeon. He was at one time Vice-President of the North of England Obstetrical Society, and at the time of his death, in addition to his other posts, was a Medical Referee for his district under the Workmen's Compensation Act, as well as an active magistrate and Consulting Surgeon of the Wrexham Infirmary. He died at Haygarth House, Chester, on January 14th, 1912, and was buried in Chester Cemetery.
