Details
Entered the Royal Artillery Ordnance Department as temporary Assistant Surgeon on May 12th, 1812; was gazetted Second Assistant Surgeon on December 2nd, 1812; First Assistant Surgeon on October 5th, 1823; and Surgeon on June 1st, 1830. The status of the Ordnance Department is noted under James Roche Verling (qv). Whitfield retired on half pay on July 1st, 1841. He was a Member of the Junior United Service Club, and died at Brighton on February 6th, 1871.
