Details
Received his professional training at Guy's and St Thomas's Hospitals. He practised for many years as a surgeon at Wolverhampton, where he was for twenty-four years Consulting Surgeon to the Eye and Ear Infirmary, of which he was the founder. At the close of his life he removed to Birmingham (Lansdowne Terrace, Handsworth). He died August 3rd, 1880. His portrait is in the Fellows' Album. Publication:- "An Essay on the Formation or Proximate Cause of Sound, explained on a New Principle, to which are added Some Observations respecting the manner in which Sounds are Impressed upon the Organ of Hearing," being the substance of a Dissertation read before the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 1829. This title he varied several times, and in 1875 it reads : "An Essay on the Proximate Cause of Sound, in Relation to the Sounds of the Heart and Lungs, in Health and Disease," etc.
