Born at Copenhagen, 15 November 1847, he matriculated at the university in 1872 and graduated MD in 1879. He was successively prosector in surgery, prosector in pathological anatomy, privat-docent in surgery 1881, assistant professor and director of the surgical department of the Royal Frederick Hospital 1886, and professor of clinical surgery 1899. His surgical papers (1888-1904) were published in two volumes in 1905 and 1908. He died on 19 June 1926.
