Details
Born at Romsey, Hants 19 May 1856, son of Francis Buckell MRCS and Elizabeth Martin his wife, he was educated at University College Hospital, qualifying in 1882. After serving as house surgeon and house physician at the North Staffordshire Infirmary, Stoke-on-Trent, he went into practice at Cheltenham, where he became consulting surgeon to the General Hospital. In 1916 he emigrated to British Columbia to join his younger brother Edward (MRCS 1886) in practice at Salmon Arm. He became a member of the British Columbia Surgical Society. He married in 1890 Annie Hill Allardyce, who died in 1949. Buckell continued to live in British Columbia after his retirement, and kept up his medical interests, though blind in his last years. He died at Cowichan, Vancouver Island on 2 January 1956 aged 99, survived by his two daughters and a grand-daughter. He was the senior Fellow of the College.
