Details
Born about 1878, he was educated at Guy's Hospital, where he served as house surgeon and resident medical officer to the paying wards. He was senior clinical assistant to the Golden Square Throat Hospital, and went into general practice at Teddington. He worked there from 1904 to 1947. He planned and built, through voluntary contributions, a fifty-bed hospital at Teddington, and hoped to associate with it a health-centre for the use of all local medical men. His advice was highly valued by his colleagues in the district, and he was active in all local affairs. He was chairman of the South Middlesex division of the British Medical Association 1938-43, President of the British Legion branch, and a constant churchman at St Mary's which he helped to restore. He was elected a Freeman of the Borough of Twickenham in 1948 in recognition of his public service. During the first world war Camps served in the RAMC in France and Malta. In the second war he had charge of a first-aid post for civilian casualties at Teddington. He suffered from coronary thrombosis in 1935, but was able to continue his practice for twelve years, including those of the war. He retired in 1947 to Warbledon near Heathfield, Sussex where he died suddenly on 8 March 1956 aged 78.
