Born on 22 March 1888 in Co Tyrone, Ireland, he studied medicine at Queen's College, Galway and Queen's College, Belfast, where he graduated with first-class honours in 1910 and was demonstrator of anatomy 1912-13. He was house surgeon at Downe Hospital, Downpatrick and casualty house surgeon at Bristol Royal Infirmary. During the first world war he served in the RAMC 1914-18 and was awarded the Military Cross. After the war Kerr held resident posts at the London Temperance Hospital, St Mark's Hospital, and the London Hospital. He practised in London for the rest of his career, and became consultant surgeon to the National Temperance Hospital and to Sittingbourne Memorial Hospital. He lived at 72 Harley House. Kerr retired in 1955 to 19 West Hill, St Leonard's-on-Sea, Sussex, where he died on 12 July 1957 aged 69. Publications: Plexiform, cirsoid, aneurysm of the scalp. *Brit med J* 1933, 2, 566.
