Details
Born in Penarth, Glamorgan, on 19 September 1907, he was educated at Clifton College, Christ's College, Cambridge, and St Bartholomew's Hospital where he was a house surgeon and surgical chief assistant. Joining the RAFVR before the second world war he served in France and West Africa, and then as squadron leader and surgical specialist at Wroughton, Wiltshire. After the war he settled in Barnstaple in 1946 and was appointed surgeon to the North Devon Infirmary, but with the advent of the National Health Service he became a senior hospital medical officer in the North Devon Hospital Group. He was area surgeon for North Devon in the St John Ambulance Brigade, and for his work in this field he was appointed a Serving Brother in the Venerable Order of St John of Jerusalem. He died at Barnstaple on 25 March 1959 aged 51, survived by his wife née Daphne Anne Elmslie, and their two sons and a daughter.
