Details
Born in Belfast in 1901 he was educated by the Christian Brothers and at Queen's University. After serving as surgical registrar at Sheffield Royal Infirmary, and as senior surgical registrar at the Queen's Hospital, Birmingham, 1929-32, he was appointed to the Staff of the Mater Infirmorum Hospital in Belfast, which he served for the rest of his life with devoted loyalty. He was also consultant surgeon to the City Hospital and Lecturer in operative surgery at Queen's University. He was chiefly interested in abdominal surgery. Though shy and reserved he was a good teacher, much appreciated for his humour and shrewd judgment. He died on 9 December 1961 aged 60, survived by his wife.
