Details
Born at Christchurch, New Zealand 18 December 1894, he was educated in England at Berkhamsted School and St George's Hospital. He qualified during the first world war, and went on active service as a Major with the New Zealand Army Medical Corps in France, winning the Military Cross. He then spent five years in London, with house appointments at St George's. He returned to New Zealand in1924 as assistant surgeon at Wellington Hospital till 1935, becoming senior surgeon in 1938 and retiring in 1953 as consulting surgeon. He was an excellent teacher of final-year students. From 1928 to 1932 he was assistant to Sir James Elliot as editor of the *New Zealand Medical Journal*, and then edited it himself 1932-38. He was Chairman of the Wellington division of the British Medical Association 1937-38, secretary of the New Zealand branch 1940-44 and its President 1945-47, in which capacity he attended the annual meeting in London in 1946. Rhind married Vera Edwards in 1924. He died on 1 September 1956, aged 62, survived by his wife and their two daughters.
