Harold Holmwood Renyard was a consultant surgeon in Nottingham and Newark. The son of a south London policeman, he studied medicine at King's College Hospital Medical School, qualifying in 1940. During the Blitz he worked as a casualty officer, and later served as a surgeon lieutenant in the Navy, in Ceylon. Following his demobilisation, he trained as a surgeon at King's. He gained his FRCS in 1948 and his MS in 1952. He was a resident surgical officer at Croydon General Hospital. In 1955 he was appointed as a consultant surgeon at Nottingham General Hospital and Newark Hospital. When the new medical school was established in Nottingham, he took on a teaching commitment there. He retired in 1981. He served the Anglican Church all his life, and was an active lay reader for over 40 years. He enjoyed carpentry, gardening and photography, and had a lifelong passion for creating detailed working models, for which he won prizes at national exhibitions. Predeceased by his wife Phyllis, he died on 3 April 2008, aged 91. He was survived by his three children.
