Details
Born on 17 September at Halifax, he was educated at Skipton Grammar School and Leeds University where he won several scholarships and gold and silver medals. He qualified in 1897 with the McGill surgery prize. Later he practised in Headlingley and was honorary surgeon to Leeds Public Dispensary. He joined the RAMC(T) and in 1914 was attached to the East Leeds War Hospital and the Ministry of Pensions Orthopaedic Hospital at Beckett Park, Leeds. Having gained his Fellowship, he became surgeon to the Great Western Railway Accident Hospital at Swindon. During this period he was Chairman of the Swindon Division of the British Medical Association and President of the Wiltshire Branch in 1926-27. He retired to Bedfordshire but, on the outbreak of war in 1939, he became a surgeon in the Emergency Medical Service at Arlesey and consulting surgeon to the Ministry of Pensions. Greenwood was a capable artist and made the line drawings in *Aids to Surgery*. He died on 9 June 1962 aged 88, survived by a married daughter.
