Details
Born in Sydney on 14 May 1900 he was educated at Camberwell Grammar School, Melbourne and the University of Melbourne graduating in science. He was successively clinical assistant to the Orthopaedic department of the Royal Melbourne Hospital, assistant orthopaedic surgeon at the Royal Children's Hospital, and orthopaedic surgeon to the Repatriation General Hospital, Heidelberg, Melbourne. Stonham served in the Indian Medical Service 1938-48, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. As a surgeon specialist he was posted to the British General Hospital at Poona and then to various Indian General Hospitals in India, the Middle and Near East and Europe, finally making postgraduate study in England in 1947. After returning to Australia he practised at 2 Collins Street, Melbourne and lived at 346 Whitehorse Road, Balwyn. He died on 22 February 1964 aged 63, survived by his daughter. There is a photograph of Stonham at the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Publications: Treatment of wounds with urea *Ind med Gaz* 1940, 75, 575.
